1. What is the FastPrep-24 Classic used for?
The FastPrep-24 Classic is a laboratory bead-beating homogenizer used to mechanically disrupt and homogenize biological samples before downstream DNA, RNA, or protein extraction and analysis.
2. How many samples can the FastPrep-24 Classic process at once?
The included QuickPrep adapter holds 24 × 2 mL tubes for simultaneous sample processing. Other sample configurations require suitable compatible adapters.
3. What speed and processing time settings are available?
The FastPrep-24 Classic provides selectable speeds from 4.0 to 6.5 m/s and processing times from 1 to 60 seconds. Select settings according to sample type, tube, bead matrix, and downstream workflow.
4. Can the FastPrep-24 Classic store processing programs?
Yes. The instrument supports storage of up to five speed/time setting combinations, helping users repeat frequently performed sample preparation workflows.
5. Which biological samples can be processed?
The instrument is used for mechanical homogenization of tissues, cultured cells, and microorganisms, and can support environmental sample preparation. Select the Lysing Matrix and protocol based on sample characteristics.
6. Does the FastPrep-24 Classic extract DNA or RNA by itself?
No. It performs the mechanical disruption or homogenization step. DNA and RNA isolation typically requires compatible extraction buffers and downstream purification procedures.
7. What is the difference between FastPrep-24 Classic and FastPrep-24 5G?
Both instruments support bead-beating sample preparation. The FastPrep-24 Classic offers adjustable speed and time controls with stored programs, while the FastPrep-24 5G features a programmable touchscreen and a different operating configuration. Review each model's current technical specifications before selecting an instrument.
8. Which accessories and reagents work with the FastPrep-24 Classic?
The instrument includes a QuickPrep holder for 24 × 2 mL tubes. Compatible sample holders and MP Biomedicals Lysing Matrix products support different sample types and workflows. Verify tube-holder compatibility before use.
9. Where can I find operating and sample-loading instructions?
Refer to the official FastPrep-24 Classic user manual and quick reference guide linked under the product documentation section.
