FastPrep®-24 Classic
Benchtop Bead-Beating Homogenizer for Laboratory Sample Preparation
The FastPrep®-24 Classic from MP Biomedicals is a high-speed benchtop bead-beating homogenizer designed for mechanical disruption and homogenization of biological samples. Its multidirectional bead-beating motion agitates sample material against specialized Lysing Matrix particles, helping disrupt cells and tissues before downstream extraction and analysis.
Designed for routine laboratory sample preparation, the FastPrep-24 Classic processes up to 24 samples simultaneously using the included QuickPrep adapter for 2 mL tubes. Adjustable processing speed and run time allow users to configure operating conditions according to sample type and application requirements.
The instrument can store up to five combinations of speed and time settings for frequently used applications, supporting repeatable laboratory workflows. Appropriate Lysing Matrix tubes, adapters, and operating parameters should be selected according to validated protocols and the instrument instruction manual.
Research Applications
- Molecular Biology: Mechanical sample homogenization before DNA or RNA extraction and purification using appropriate reagents and extraction kits.
- Microbiology: Disruption of bacteria, yeast, and fungi using sample-appropriate Lysing Matrix beads.
- Tissue and Cell Research: Homogenization of animal or plant tissues and cultured cells for downstream molecular analysis.
- Environmental Research: Preparation of soil and related environmental samples for downstream DNA analysis using compatible tubes and extraction reagents.
- Protein Analysis: Initial mechanical sample disruption before protein extraction and characterization.
