| Alternate Names | Amino-4-Pyridine; γ-Aminopyridine; 4-Pyridinamine, 4-Pyridylamine; Fampridine; 4AP |
| Application Notes | 4-Aminopyridine (4-AP) is a nonselective K+ channel blocker that has been used to characterize and study the blockage of K+ channels. Studies show that 4-AP binds from the cytoplasmic side of the cell membrane. Research suggest that 4-AP extends the potentials of unmyelinated and demyelinated fibers, facilitates conduction in fibers blocked by demyelination, and can induce glutamate and neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) release. |

| Biochemical Physiological Actions | 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) is a non-selective potassium channel blocker. It reverses saxitoxin and tetrodotoxin induced cardiorespiratory depression. 4-AP increases stimulation-induced release of acetylcholine and induces depolarization of GABA neurons. |
