Glioma is a form of tumor that starts in the glial cells of the brain or the spine.[1] Glioma is typically malignant and account for about a third of all tumors of the brain and nervous system.
Current therapies involving surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy have a modest survival benefit.
Several acquired genetic mutations have been found in gliomas including mutation in the tumour suppressor gene such as p53, PTEN, in epidermal growth factor receptor and others. Study and characterization of the nuclei acid composition would push for new therapies involving oligonucleotide approaches. The studies would first need effective lysis and extraction of the DNA from the glioma cells.
