Biochemical Physiological Actions Chlorhexidine is a cationic broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent belonging to the bis(biguanide) family. Its mechanism of action involves destabilization of the outer bacterial membrane. It is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
