Dextran sulfate sodium salt, colitis grade (36,000 - 50,000)
SKU: 02160110-CF
Dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS) is a synthetic sulfated polysaccharide derivative of dextran with wide use in biomedical and clinical research. Its most important application is the induction of colitis in rodent models. DSS binds to medium-chain fatty acids in the colon, disrupts the epithelial barrier, and triggers intestinal inflammation.
Because of its reproducibility and high efficacy, MP Biomedicals’ DSS is recognized as the gold standard reagent for colitis and colitis-associated cancer models. Over the past 19 years, DSS from MP Biomedicals has been cited in more than 3,000 peer-reviewed publications.
Application Notes
- Ulcerative colitis models – commonly used in both acute and chronic induction protocols (2–5% DSS in drinking water for 5–7 days is standard)
- Colitis-associated cancer models – often paired with azoxymethane (AOM), available separately from MP Biomedicals
- Additional research areas – inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), gut microbiome interactions, and colon cancer
