L-3,4-Dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA), an antiParkinsonian agent, is the natural isomer of the immediate precursor to dopamine. L-DOPA is the product of the hydroxylation of L-tyrosine by tyrosine hydroxylase in brain and in adrenal medulla.
