Freund's Complete Adjuvant
Freund’s Complete Adjuvant, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, consists of heat-killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis in non-metabolizable oils (paraffin oil) and surfactant (Arlacel A). Components are thoroughly mixed in controlled proportions and autoclaved prior to being vialed.
Features of Freund's Complete Adjuvant (FCA):
- Also called Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA).
- FCA can be utilized to produce water-in-oil emulsions of antigens.
- FCA can significantly enhance the immune response to immunogens by inducing a potent and long-lasting immune response.
- FCA contains heat-killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which help to stimulate the immune system.
- FCA is often used for initial immunization.
