A customer faced difficult challenges with peracetic acid, including frequent aliquoting, rapid degradation, and inconsistent lots.
Challenge:
The customer's labor-intensive process of aliquoting peracetic acid every three weeks, coupled with lot inconsistency and degradation, posed a pressing problem. The acid's photosensitivity and oxygen sensitivity exacerbated the situation, resulting in rapid degradation in the containers.
Solution:
Our team swiftly collaborated to devise a unique solution. We eliminated the need for aliquoting by right-sizing the volume from 100 mL down to 11 mL. To address degradation, we extended the stability from 4-5 weeks to an impressive 7 months. Additionally, we significantly increased lot consistency from a 13% range to a remarkable 2%. By employing brown HDPE bottles, reducing headspace, and implementing a nitrogen blanket to create an oxygen-free environment, we tackled both photosensitivity and oxygen sensitivity challenges. The acid was sealed in foil pouches and refrigerated for further stability.
Result:
Our customized solution provided a breakthrough in stability and consistency, while also eliminating the need for labor-intensive aliquoting. The acid's degradation was greatly reduced, ensuring a reliable supply for the customer's critical processes. Ongoing stability studies aim to achieve a full year of stability, demonstrating our commitment to delivering success.
