Each tube contain 1.6 mm aluminum oxide granules and 1.6 mm silicon carbide granules. For RNA and protein isolation for samples in which Matrix A is too aggressive. For isolation of intact organelles and super-molecular structures, tissues with brittle cell walls, bacteria (Gram +/-), molds and fungi, coral emulsions, and fixed samples where lower shearing is needed.

Each impact-resistant 2 mL tube contains 1.6 mm aluminum oxide particles and 1.6 mm silicon carbide particles. Matrix F tubes have white caps. Silicon carbide has relatively low density and high strength and hardness, and therefore is effective at breaking tough, hard, or brittle cell membranes.
