Product Description

The MagBeads FastRNA™ Kit for Virus is designed to quickly and effectively isolate high-quality total viral RNA from cell culture media, swabs, and bodily fluids such as blood, plasma, serum, saliva, and more in 60 minutes. After addition of magnetic beads and binding solution, RNA is adsorbed onto the surface of the beads, and impurities such as proteins and other inhibitors are washed away.

This kit is versatile and can be used with most automated nucleic acid extraction platforms available in the market. Alternatively, extractions can be performed manually using microcentrifuge tubes (see Cat. No. 115081500 and 115083500) or 96-deep well plates (see Cat. No. 115095050) with a magnetic stand (see Cat. No. 116570413, 116570426, and 116570429).

The kit is equipped with reagents specially formulated to remove common inhibitory substances found in biological samples, such as proteins and enzyme inhibitors. As a result, the output is highly pure total RNA that is suitable for a variety of molecular biology applications, including RT-PCR, in-vitro transcription, qPCR, and RNA sequencing.


Performance Data

MagBeads FastRNA Kit for Virus is a reliable solution for isolating viral RNA from a variety of cell-free fluid samples, including plasma, PBS, saliva, swabs, cell-culture media, etc. Results demonstrate that RNA extracted using MagBeads FastRNA Kit for Virus is free of contaminants that could interfere with downstream applications. High-quality RNA obtained using this kit is an ideal starting material for real-time PCR, which ensures accurate and reproducible viral detection results.

Figure 1: Real time RT-PCR of 101 to 105 copies of total RNA from Influenza B virus (ATCC VR-1883DQ). High RNA recovery is achieved, with almost perfect linearity when comparing an RNA standard with RNA extracted using MagBeads FastRNA Kit for Virus.


Figure 2: Real time RT-PCR of RNA extracted from various virus-spiked samples. The same amount of Influenza B virus was spiked into 100 or 200 µL of various samples, followed by RNA extraction using MagBeads FastRNA Kit for Virus. Similar Cts were obtained for the different spiked samples.
