Biochemical Physiological Actions | Antioxidant that binds hydroxyl radicals. Endogenous inhibitory neuromodulator that is blocked by strychnine and picrotoxin. Inhibits the Na2+-dependent transport of GABA and β-alanine. It is a degradation product of cysteine and a precursor of taurine. |
