Product Description

This KGF product is a potent mitogen of keratinocytes and epithelial cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Keratinocyte growth factor (KGF, 18.9 kDa, 163 amino acids) includes a secretory signal sequence and shares 39% identity with FGF-Basic. It is expressed in a number of stromal fibroblast cell lines but absent from normal glial cells and epithelial cell lines. KGF stimulates proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes and other cells in the epithelium and induces chemotaxis of microvascular endothelial cells and neovascularization of rat cornea.

Unit Definition

one unit is the amount of KGF needed for the stimulation and maintenance of human keratinocytes in chemically defined medium with IGF-I.
