Responsibilities:
The Director of Research & Development and Tech Support requires excellent coaching, leadership, motivation, decision-making, and communication skills, and the strong ability to collaborate productively across all new products development functions, including but not limited to Quality Assurance, Market Trend Analysis, Product Management, and Development. 
This role requires active participation in developing a clear development strategy, including implementing standards/methodologies that create an effective and robust products development in supporting customers of life sciences research environment. In addition, the role requires the proven ability to lead a development team that can produce on-time solutions.

 

  • Lead R&D and Tech Support team on a daily basis to deliver timely releases for new products, enhancements, and fixes for product quality related issues and applications. 
  • initiation, design and development of instruments, kits and applications for use in life sciences research setting. Implement efficient processes, scalable tools and resource allocation to achieve a high level of productivity. Collaborate with management, subject matter experts, and the development team to establish the technical vision and analyze trade-offs between usability and performance needs 
  • Encourage and promote team best practices (product development and trials, etc.) 
  • Work closely with other company leaders to maintain a solid understanding of the impact of specific products releases at all levels of the business and client base. 
  • Provide guidance to the development team to facilitate positive and effective communications throughout the company. 
  • Coordinate staff activity to accomplish objectives for specific projects. 
  • Plan and execute staff development activities and training. 
  • Actively participate in daily stand-ups, as well as prioritization and ticket grooming sessions as necessary to effect on-time and impactful products releases. 
  • Report weekly to the management team regarding work in progress, timelines, updates, staffing issues, and/or obstacles to on-time releases. 
  • Forecast and adhere to an annual budget. 
  • Evaluate the need for external professional services teams and present any proposed changes to management for review. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications:

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • 15+ years of hands-on experience successfully managing all aspects of a development team that designs and delivers life sciences products and services. 
  • Familiarity with at least some of the following technologies: molecular biology, cell biology, immunology and biochemistry 
  • Knowledge of life sciences research environments, preferably serving a big business and company, is required 
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects over extended amount of time. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally as appropriate for the needs of the audience. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), webinar tools, and Internet-based systems and programs.

 

Working Relationships:
  • Reports To:  VP & GM, WW Life Sciences
  • Supervises: Manager of New Product Development & Manager of Tech Support

 

Work Environment:
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
  • Job demands might exceed normal business hours.
